Milton Ray Cooper passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at his home on December 13, 2022. He was born in Shreveport, LA on October 6, 1933, to Willie Densley Warren and Albert Wallace Cooper. His family soon moved permanently to Jackson, MS which he considered his home.

Milton was a faithful Baptist. He excelled both academically and in sports and had a lifelong passion for golf. He had a deep love of animals and in his retirement years, often had a miniature poodle by his side.

In his late teens, Milton worked summers on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. As an adult, he traveled extensively for business and pleasure. He was an army veteran, worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, had a long career as a sales representative in the food services industry, and later in life he was a realtor. When he retired, he and his wife traveled for several years; touring the states and Canada while living in their motorhome. They returned to Lakeland where Milton enjoyed his golfing days.

Milton is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Ann Hollis Cooper, his children, Jeannie Michele Cooper of Omaha, Jeffery Kirk Cooper of Portland, stepchildren, Mark Daniel McKenzie (Kim) of St John’s, Merritt Ann McKenzie Brake (Michael) of Lakeland, and four grandchildren. Milton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, “Buddy,” sister, Addie, and his eldest son, Sean Patrick.

At a later date, the family will hold graveside celebration of life at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes.
