President signs Protection against harassment of women at workplace bill-2010
President Asif Ali Zardari has signed Protection against harassment of women at workplace bill-2010 which has now become act and it will take affect immediately.
Under this bill women employees will not be harassed at their workplaces and the culprit will be liable to punishment of imprisonment term as well as fine.
An institution will be constituted to redress the grievances of women and Mohtasib will be appointed at provincial and federal level for women. .
President Asif Ali Zardari signed the bill in a special ceremony held here Tuesday in Presidency.
Addressing the ceremony the President said protecting the rights of women was mission of Benazir Bhutto and we were endeavoring to complete this mission. “We are however moving forward with her philosophy and ideas”, she added.
The incumbent government had taken several steps for the betterment and empowerment of women, he said adding these measures included distribution of land free of cost among women from farming community, Benazir Income Support program and many other programs. “We will continue to go ahead on the road of development”, he remarked.
All the religions including Islam stresses upon the respect of women, he said adding we are eliminating outdated customs against them.
“We still stand by this philosophy that democracy was the best revenge and we are committed to consolidate democratic norms”, he announced.
