ISLAMABAD: Mincing no words, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif refused to give any deadline for an end to menace of load shedding and said it might years to clear up the mess left by the previous government of PPP.
Talking to the media persons here on Saturday he said load shedding was like piled up garbage of 13/14 years, which could not be cleared immediately and added it might take not weeks or months, but years.
Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had five years to resolve this issue, but they wasted it. He said our first priority was to reduce the duration of load shedding.
He said that he has yet to take charge of the ministry of water and power, he would be able to review the real situation within four days. He said that a strategy has been prepared to address the issue of electricity shortage.
The newly inducted minister said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will himself make public the contents of this policy soon.
He said this policy‚ envisages immediate‚ medium and long term relief for the consumers.
The minister assured that equal load shedding will be carried out in all parts of the country and no discrimination would be made with anyone.
Khawaja Asif said our first priority is to reduce the hours of load shedding‚ especially in the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
He said domestic consumers will be given preference followed by the industrial units.
Minister for water and power, Khawaja Asif assured that he would be making sincere efforts for resolving this issue, the people would be informed if unannounced load shedding resorted to.
