Chandigarh: Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq passed away on Saturday in Indian city Chandigarh’s hospital, he was in Jammu jail and was badly beaten by former Indian soldier, Indian media reported.
Sanaullah was critically injured and under observation for past two days. The attack had come a day after a convicted Indian spy died after being bludgeoned with a brick by fellow inmates at a Pakistani prison.
The 52-year-old Pakistani from Sialkot, incarcerated in Kot Bhalwal jail since 1999, was attacked with an axe by ex-Indian army jawan, Vinod Kumar. Indian media reports said the two had a heated altercation after which Vinod, a cashiered soldier, attacked Sanaullah, leaving him bloodied with multiple injuries on head. He was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where doctors described his condition as “serious” and that he was not responding to treatment, later he was airlifted to Chandigarh.
Hours earlier, three officials of Pakistan High Commission were permitted by India to visit him. But unfortunately he succumbed to his critical injuries on Saturday afternoon.
The attack had come a day after a convicted Indian spy Sarabjit Singh died after being bludgeoned with a brick by fellow inmates at a Pakistani prison.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry called the jail attack in Indian-administered Kashmir an “obvious retaliation” for the killing of the Indian prisoner.
Pakistani foreign office, however did not confirm the death saying that they were in contact with Indian authorities and their High Commission in Delhi.
