May 11: Army starts deploying ‘quick response units’ in Karachi


KARACHI: To ensure peaceful process of elections on May 11, the Pakistan Army started deploying troops in Karachi alike other parts of the country.

Officials said over 3000 army soldiers were being deployed in Karachi as ‘quick response unit’ to respond in case of need at any polling station.

On Thursday, Director General ISPR Major General Asim Salim Bajwa said army deployment in Balochistan has been completed while deployment in KPK was underway.

Army deployment in Punjab also begun today while in FATA the army is already deployed to maintain law and order during elections.

The army is also providing security cover during the entire process of printing of ballot papers and distribution, for which 50 helicopters will be used.

Bajwa said that army’s deployment throughout the country is being carried out under article 245 of the Constitution.
