Curfew to be lifted soon from GB: Malik
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday said that the curfew will be lifted soon from Gilgit Baltistan and targeted operation is likely to be commenced against the accused involved in Chillas violence.
He told media that President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered special instructions to ensure peace in Gilgit Baltistan and the government is trying every option to ensure harmony and peace in the region.
He said that the President has instructed him to visit Gilgit Baltistan soon to meet the religious leaders to figure out the solutions.
The Interior Minister said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the lives of the citizens and effective measures would be taken ensure peace in Gilgit Baltistan.
Answering a query he said that the mobile phone services would be restored very soon in the region.
He said that he is monitoring the proceedings of Dr. Khalil Chishti and all legal support will be provided to him and special orders have been issued to the Pakistani High Commissioner in India.
He also ensured MNA Akhunzada Chatan of reopening the Passport Office in Bajaur Agency within 15 days.
