Blast in chehlum’s procession kills 8

KHANPUR: At least eight persons were killed and many others injured in electrical installation’s blast in Khanpur, Tehsil of the Rahim Yar Khan district of Bahawalpur division on Sunday, officials said.
According RPO Bahawalpur Abid Qadri, the blast took place in an electricity transformer near City Police Station in Khanpur, leaving 8 persons killed and 20 others injured.
Abid Qadri said that the blast was not an act of terrorism.
The rescue teams rushed to the scene and started to move the dead bodies and injured to hospitals while the security men cordoned off the area.
The electric transformer blasted after a very high steel coated Alam (flag) pole collided with high tension electricity wires in a chehlum procession near Darbar-e-Hussaini in Khanpur.
