ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari met Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Saturday amid deteriorating relations between the civilian government and the military leaders over an alleged memo.

The meeting took place ahead of Defence Committee meeting presided over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani where three services chiefs will also be present.

The sources said that the army chief discussed with the president foreign, domestic and political situation.
