Opposition agree on early elections

ISLAMABAD: Ultimately, opposition partiers have succeeded to agree PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif to change the government through vote, rejecting agitational moves by the party.

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif held talks with the leaders of the opposition parties at Punjab House in Islamabad.

The leaders of the opposition parties included Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aftab Sherpao, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Professor Sajid Mir, Professor Khurshid, Hasil Bizenjo and Gohar Ayub.

Nawaz Sharif has given three options against the government including a no-confidence motion against the government, mass resignations from the parliament and public demonstrations. PML-N leaders Raja Zafarul Haq, Iqbal Zafar Jhagrha, Khwaja Asif, Khwaja Saad Rafique and Ahsan Iqbal were also present on this occasion.

The PML-N chief said that state institutions should not confront with each other and the government should respect the country’s constitution.

PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal spoke to the media following Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with opposition leaders.

Iqbal said no unconstitutional steps would be tolerated and the supremacy of law and parliament was dependent on Supreme Court orders being implemented.

“A crisis is being created because Supreme Court orders are not being implemented.”

Commenting on the resolution tabled in parliament in favour of the government, Iqbal said this would not be supported.

The PML-N leader also called for immediate elections in the country adding that a democratic change had become essential.
