Joined politics to assist my father: Mariam Nawaz

LAHORE: Daughter of Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif, Mariam Nawaz said she entered politics to assist her father.
Talking to media after attending a ceremony at Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore, Mariam Nawaz said she had not yet taken any decision about contesting elections.
She said ‘on the directives of my father, I am contacting the new generation and soon I will go to other parts of the country in this regard’.
Mariam said she is alone in politics, while her other siblings are out of country. She also prayed for speedy recovery of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that recent dengue virus was worst of its kind and the Chief Minister Punjab took emergent steps for its eradication and due to the untiring efforts of the doctors, nurses, paramedics and experts, the death rate was controlled. She said that foreign experts have also openly admitted this fact that had government not taken these steps, the number of deaths would have been in thousands.
She said that government is making a comprehensive planning for the development of health, education and medical sciences. She appreciated the efforts of principal, MS and faculty members for providing best facilities to the students in Fatima Jinnah Medical College and best medical facilities to the patients in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. She said that the government not only benefited from the services of foreign medical experts for eradication of dengue virus but has also sent doctors, nurses, entomologists and officials of concerned departments for training abroad.
Replying to the questions of students, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that PML-N has the same approach which the people have over the issue of Dr. Afia Siddiqui and vowed the being a woman, she would be raising voice against the oppression made on Afia siddiqui. She said that if PML-N came into power in center, the citizens would not be handed over to other countries against dollars. Maryam Nawaz Sharif replied the questions of the students with great patience on this occasion.
She said that the economy of the country is facing crisis due to corruption, irregularities and bad governance. She said that the country cannot make progress till the elimination of corruption and observing merit at all levels. Replying to another question, she said that provision of equal opportunities of education and treatment to poor and rich is part of policy of PML-N. She said that Daanish school system would be introduced throughout the country so that the class division could be eliminated from the society. She disclosed that the free education is provided to the poor and deserving male and female students in all educational institutions being run under Mian Sharif Trust.
