GHOTKI: Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced to join Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) here on Sunday.
Addressing thousands of supporters and followers here on Sunday, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said he is joining the Tehrik-e-Insaf being led by Imran Khan.
“I join the party that is working towards justice and change. I am now part of Imran Khan’s party,” he announced.
The decision was no longer a surprise for the people, as Imran Khan who had earlier addressed today’s rally, had weeks ago disclosed Qureshi’s political plan.
Earlier, this month, Shah Mehmood Qureshi had parted his ways with Pakistan People’s Party and also resigned from his National Assembly membership.
He said time has come to go to public and hold fresh general elections. The Nation Assembly, he said, is not functioning according to aspirations of people. “It is time for this government to go,” he maintained.
Qureshi said he stepped down as the country’s foreign minister in a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Raymond Davis issue.
The former foreign minister said Pakistan’s nuclear programme is not safe in the presence of Asif Ali Zardari. He said he will reveal more about nuclear program in PTI’s next public meeting in Karachi.
Earlier, addressing the same gathering, Imran Khan invited the former foreign minister to join his Tehrik-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice).
Commenting on Mohmand Agency incident, he urged the government to pull out of US-led war on terror.
The PTI leader said Qureshi’s entry into his party will be useful for the country.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that President Asif Ali Zardari had said that he would not be allowed to hold a rally in Ghotki.
He said that it was not the land of Asif Ali Zardari but that of Sindhi people.
He said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was a son of Sindh and he came out before the people of Pakistan when the members of National Assembly didn’t listen to him.
He said that Sindhis were those people who passed the first resolution for the establishment of Pakistan in the Sindh Assembly.
The former foreign minister said that the convoy that started from Multan would go all way long to topple ‘Firown’ in Islamabad.
He said that the all eyes were at Imran Khan because the nation was finding its leaders to lead from the front to make the country prosperous.
