Nisar resigns from PAC Chairmanship

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday announced to resign from Chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Addressing a press conference here in Islamabad on Sunday, he alleged that government wanted to include corrupt people in the committee. He said that government has appointed a controversial person while it has also inducted new person in the committee who contains soft corner for corrupt people.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan said that during his tenure as the PAC Chairman, 115 billion rupees were deposited in the national exchequer and took action against more than 200 corrupt persons.
He said that he worked beyond the party affiliations, however, if government want, to politicise business of the committee then it is not possible for him to continue as the PAC Chairman.
He said that after his resignation from the PAC chairmanship, other five members of the PML-N would continue their work in the committee.
Talking about NATO attack on check posts in Mohmand Agency, Chaudhry Nisar said that in past government took decision to stop such attacks but decision were not implemented.
He said that if concrete steps were being taken after Abbot Abad and Mehran base attack then today situation may be different.
He said that transparent accountability has not been ensured in the country so far therefore such incidents are repeating and country is facing major loss.
He said that although the government has taken certain steps in the meeting of defence committee but PML-N has severe reservations regarding implementation of these decisions.
He demanded that joint session of parliament should be summoned before Ashura and this session should be open for everyone and public should be aware about the entire situation. He said that decisions of defence committee should be debated in the parliament.
He said that security of soldiers sitting at borders is our responsibility and in this regard Chief of Army staff should review the situation and should take concrete steps to avoid such incidents in future.
He said that PML-N has raised the issue of Shamsi Airbases in and outside the parliament but government showed non-seriousness and used certain delaying tactics but now situation has become crystal clear.
Answering a question Chaudhry Nisar said that people sitting in the powers corridors should respect their oath of protecting the dignity of the country and policy of war against terrorism should be reviewed.
He said that there is not much difference between drone and NATO attacks and these attacks are on our dignity and parliament should do legislation over the issue.
Chaudhry Nisar said that he has asked Imran khan that if he has any proof against PML-N leadership then he should go to the Supreme Court of Pakistan and wait for the decision. Decision of Supreme Court would clear the situation, he added.
