2 policemen 3 terrorists killed in Defence vehicle blast

KARACHI: Three alleged terrorists including a woman were killed while two policemen were martyred when a vehicle blew up with a powerful blast here in Defence area on Wednesday.
According to reports, those killed in the explosion were suicide bombers, who wanted to target a private restaurant in the area.
All the three terrorists were killed while the two policemen who chased the vehicle martyred in the incident, police said.
Reports suggest that one suicide blew him up when their high roof vehicle was stopped by police for checking. All the dead men were wearing suicide vests.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast and the law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area. Meanwhile, police reached the scene and cordoned off the area.
As per SP Tariq Dharejo, three men riding in a white Suzuki Bolan were intercepted by a police party near an under-construction park for checking when the men inside blew themselves up. One policeman was killed while one was injured.
“The policemen were chasing the Suzuki high-roof and exchange of fire took place and after a chase the men in the car apparently detonated themselves resulting in the blast,” he added.
Dharejo added that “one man was wearing a jacket with a magazine indicating that he was a terrorist”. However the identities of his fellow occupants were unclear.
Police informed that five Kalashnikovs and rifles were recovered from the scattered debris of the vehicle that was completely destroyed in the blast.
Home Minister Manzoor Wasan, who rushed to the scene of the explosion, praised police for preventing a possible terror attack.
Wasan, while glorifying the dead officers identified him as Maula Bukhsh and Safir.
The Minister also announced compensation of Rs2 million and a job in police for the martyred officers’ son.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah asked for a report about the incident.
The bombers may have been planning to target a hotel or a fair to be held in the area, officials said.
The news channels said intelligence agencies had warned of a possible attack with an explosives-laden vehicle in Karachi. Footage on television showed the body of one of the terrorists, a bearded man wearing a shalwar-kameez.
The bloodied body lay a short distance from the mangled debris of the van, which was destroyed by the blast.
This is the second suicide blast in the same area in Karachi. On September 19, terrorists rammed an explosive-laden truck into the residence of a senior police official of the anti terrorism wing, killing eight people.




The efforts of the police have to be lauded for their effort and commitment towards combating terrorism, even under adverse situations.
