ISLAMABAD: An official of Federal Interior Ministry has made it cleared that the news of nine holidays on Eid ul Azha is totally fabricated and there will be only two official holidays from the government on the upcoming holy occasion.

“Along with the weekend on 05-06 November, there will be only two more holidays from the government which means that all the government servants will have to come to office on Thursday” the official said.

The official was replying to a SMS that is circulating rapidly which says that this year government servants would enjoy nine holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and all the public sector offices and educational institutions to remain close from 5 November to 13 November.

According to this SMS 5 and 6 November would be weekly closed days being Saturday and Sunday, while 07 November would be Hajj day. Three holidays would also be observed for Eid days (i.e 8 to 10 November) whereas 11 November, on Friday there will be Iqbal’s day holiday ahead of two weekly holidays.

The major error in this SMS is that Iqbal day has been written to be observed on 11 November, whereas nation observe Iqbal day on 09th of November each year.

Nevertheless, an official notification of public and official holidays in year 2011, issued by Interior Ministry, is making things more clear as there are only two holidays mentioned in this official document which are on 7th and 8th November, 2011. However it is also said in the document that these holidays are subjected to appearance of moon for which a separate Notification will be issued.
