ISLAMABAD: Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) inked Memorandum of Understanding with Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) for technical cooperation.
The MoU was signed between ERRA and Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) Tuesday at ERRA Headquarters. The MoU was signed by Country Head, ACTED, Andrew Buchanan and Brig. Saleem Mirza DG (A&P), ERRA.
This MoU will formalize institutional collaboration between ERRA and ACTED for technical cooperation. ACTED having a vast technical portfolio will assist ERRA with storage, retrieval, mapping and analysis of geographical data using Geographic Information System (GIS). Since the ambit of ERRA’s mandate now spans across the entire country, development of a comprehensive database management is vital.
This will also act as a knowledge source for future reference and research moreover; it will enable ERRA to accomplish the assigned tasks in more benefiting manner and will assist the management in making timely analytical decisions. ACTED has been an active partner of ERRA and has been assisting the victims of the earthquake in relief, food shelter and access to clean water since 2005.
“ERRA stands by its commitment for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected areas and ERRA’s landmark achievements have been acknowledged internationally by the UN’s prestigious SASAKAWA Award and ISO 9001 certification” said the Deputy Chairman, ERRA, Lt. Gen Sardar Mehmood Ali Khan while speaking on an MoU signing ceremony.
DDG MIS Col Amir Mohsin, in his welcome address, said that ERRA’s MIS department has complied data of over 13000 projects to date and that geographical mapping will add to the utility of this database. This will not only just help to monitor reconstruction projects but also facilitate planning of developmental projects.Mr. Buchanan while speaking on the occasion lauded ERRA’s MIS team’s effort for development of the web mapping application.
