Protest: Worst traffic jam witnessed at Murree Road, IBD Expressway

RAWALPINDI: The blockage of busy Murree Road and Islamabad Highway due to protest by Jamaat AHle-Sunat Aljamaat against the the death sentence given to the assassin of Governor Salmaan Taseer irked motorists plying on these roads.

Worst traffic jam was witnessed at Murree Road and Islamabad Highway and piles of car were seen lining up in queues. Rawalpindi and Islamabad were virtually cut off from each other.

The activists of the religious party blocked the high way with cemented small blocks and erected trucks to block all sorts of traffic

“ I have been stuck in this traffic mess for the last hour and not a single car has budged. Its very irritating. The police should had devise an alternate route”, a car driver said.

Due to the traffic jam lots of people were late to their offices and businesses.

According to several eyewitnesses the activists had gone wild and were carrying batons and had also burnt tyres but the police was no where to be seen to control the crowd

The protest had been announced a couple of days back the administration had enough time to devise an alternate plan of traffic but as usual they remained oblivious to the problems of the masses, said elderly man Badar

Sunni Tehreek had called for a wheel jam strike on Friday in protest against the death penalty for Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed murderer of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer
