ISLAMABAD: Incharge, Thar-Coal Project, eminent Pakistani scientist, Dr. Samar Mubarakmand has announced that the project would take four years to produce electricity.
Briefing the meeting of NA Standing Committee for Inter-Provincial Coordination, convened by Mir Hamdan Bugti, he informed that the initial project of Thar-Coal Energy aimed for 100MW of electricity, which if successful would encourage government to surge ahead with a massive 10,000MW electricity project.
He informed that Thar coal reserves totaled 175 billion tons, which can easily manage 10,000MW electricity for thirty years. He also informed the presence of massive reserves of gold and countless other precious minerals in tribal area and Balochistan, while Balochistan alone boasts minerals worth U$.1000 billion.
He suggested that Country could benefit greatly, if it engaged in its own exploration, rather than employing foreign concerns.
Dr. Mubarakmand also informed that copper was being exported at the rate of Rs.10.00 per kilo, and said that government had allowed him to function on the lines of Rekodik project.
He also said that there was enough manpower for all-important projects of Country, and informed that instead of importing copper worth U$.10,000 per ton, Pakistan could easily spend U$.4,500 to seek its own reserves.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the Committee, Mir Hamdan Bugti said that political governments were helpless in hands of bureaucrats, as while the bureaucrats whisked away all the cream, the politicians were only tarnished with bad reputation.
Member committee Haji Rozuddin was chagrined over the fact that despite having trillions worth of minerals, Balochistan was subjected to discriminations.
