Mid-term elections inevitable: Nawaz Sharif

KARACHI: PML-N head, Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that, considering the dark somber crisis engulfing Country, mid-term elections were inevitable.
Talking to senior journalists at a local hotel he said that he had telephonic conversation with president Asif Ali Zardari, five months earlier, during which he (Nawaz Sharif) had suggested the mid-term elections, but President Asif Ali Zardari had parried away the issue.
Nawaz Sharif insisted that three / four mid-term elections were not a bad idea as it was not an unconstitutional demand.
Replying to a question regarding Zulfiqar Mirza, Nawaz Sharif said that after Mirza fired a volley of accusations no one had the ethical /moral courage to ask Mirza to verify his claims.
He said that while reconciliation was indeed a good thing, at least terrorists should not be spared in accordance to it.
Making an indirect reference to MQM’s Altaf Hussain, he said that it was amazing that those vowing severe vengeance against each other suddenly took all allegations back. “ What should one think of such a person?” he said.
Referring to ISI’s briefing to Supreme Court, Mian Nawaz Sharif said that ISI should also brief the government.
He said that being a Pakistani, he was well aware as to who was engaged in Karachi’s mass murders, and urged a separate committee over Karachi crisis.
He also wished the government had implemented the Charter of Democracy in letter and spirit., as it would have polished its performance , besides bringing both PML-N and PPPP closer.
He said that he had reached the conclusion that National consensus was inevitable, and PML-N aspired to bring all political parties on a single platform.
