SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, a Hindu priest was arrested and six weapons including an American pistol were recovered from the premises of his residence in Jammu after he attempted to rape a woman.
The priest, Shastri Bishveshwar Kumar was detained along with the arms and ammunition at Janipur in Jammu division, a police official told media men.
The victim, Kajal Jamwal of Bakhshi Nagar, said in her complaint to the police that she got married to Rajesh Jamwal in 2009 in Janipur but the marriage went in troubled waters in a short span of time.
The police official said that she asked Mahant (priest), Bishveshwar, of the Mandir, Janipur, to give her marriage papers several times but he denied those on one pretext or the other. “On Friday evening when she approached the Mahant for her marriage papers, he entered into arguments with her, beat her and attempted to rape. He also threatened her by showing revolver,” he added.
The woman then approached the police and a case was registered against him at Janipur police station. During investigation the Mahant was arrested and a US made revolver, two double barrel guns, one single barrel gun, one bolt action rifle and one air gun along with live rounds were recovered from him, the official said.
