Projects underway to smooth Pindi traffic: Commissioner

RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Zahid Saeed has said that projects of flyover from Benazir Bhutto Hospital to Chandni Chowk and Underpass at Chohr Chowk Peshawar Road would soon be carried out by Punjab High Way Department.
He said this while presiding over a meeting held in his office to review the development projects. The meeting was attended by Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority( RDA) Chaudhary .Naseer Ahmed, Chief Engineer Highways, Farhat Munir, City Traffic Officer Dr. Muhammad Azam, XEN Public Health Muhammad Saleem Raza, TMO Rawal Town Malik Mumtaz Ahmed, representatives of NLC, IESCO, Sui Gas and PTCL.
Commissioner directed the utility services departments including WASA, Sui Gas, PTCL and IESCO to submit their demands notes for shifting their services from Murree Road away from alignment of Flyover. So that the payments could be made to start the construction of proposed flyover.
He instructed the consultant of the projects NESPAK to submit the final design to Chief Engineer Punjab for approval. The estimated cost of flyover of Murree Road would be Rs.880 million while underpass at Chohr Chowk would be Rs. 520 million.
It was decided in meeting that civil aviation official would be approached for obtaining no objection certificate about the height of flyover.
CTO Dr. Muhammad Azam informed the meeting that the diversion plan of the traffic of Murree Road and Peshawar Road for the completion of the projects has been made to save the commuter of these roads from any inconvenience .
