MQM formally accepts PPP’s invitation to rejoin govt

KARACHI: Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Friday formally accepted Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) invitation to rejoin the government.

Earlier this evening, President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and officiallay invited to rejoin the PPP led government.

According to the presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar, an important joint meeting of PPP’s federal and provincial cabinets, called by the President, was held in the Presidency today.

The PPP party meeting continued for one and half hour and later on Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad also joined the meeting.

During meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and officialy asked him to rejoin the government.

The President said while talking to Altaf Hussain that the criminals want to split the PPP and MQM while the MQM chief said that they will respect every decision made for maintaining law and order.

The meeting decided to increase net work of the intelligence agencies and a committee, comprising Sindh Governor, CM Sindh and Sindh Home Minister, was also formed in this regard.

The meeting also decided to render financial assistance to the families of those victims who lost their lives during ongoing violence in Karachi.
