China link to biggest ever cyber attacks

Washington: A US report on Wednesday revealed that China was found in the biggest ever series of cyber attacks targeting 72 international organisations, government websites and the networks of private companies around the world.

A report by the US computer security firm, McAfee said it believed there was one “state actor” behind the attacks, but it declined to give details.

A security expert who’s been briefed on the hacking said the evidence points to China. The five-year infiltration of global websites includes networks belonging to governments such as the United States, Taiwan, India and Southeast Asian countries.

It also includes organisations such as the United Nations, the International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
