25 districts across Punjab, KPK vulnerable to floods: NDMA

ISLAMABAD: Amid fresh wave of monsoon rains 11 districts in Punjab and 14 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) were listed as vulnerable to disasters.
Spokesman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Ahmad Kamal told Online Tuesday that 14 districts in KPK and 11 districts in Punjab could be hit by floods if heavy rains continue for a couple of days.
He said that preparation for coping with any possible emergency in the districts was completed and the local authorities are coordinating their activities with the provincial government as well as NDMA.
The spokesman said that stock was piled, and tents and other inventory was also reviewed.
He said that in case of any flooding areas in Mianwali, Bhakar and some other districts in Punjab and Peshawar, Charsada and Nowshera in KPK may be affected.
However, he said that so far the situation is not alarming and water levels in all rivers in the country are showing normalcy. “This time rain and water flow situation is monitored very strictly and no sign of danger was noticed so far,” he added.
Meanwhile, Met Office of Pakistan also confirmed raise in water flow in rivers were noticed but these are still below the flood level. Met Office said that River Chenab at Khanki is in Low Flood Level. All the other major Rivers are flowing Below Low Flood Level, it added.
