ISLAMABAD: Practice of child trafficking in the SAARC (South Asian association for regional cooperation) region is occurring not only within and across the region but in the other regions of the world as well.
Director SAARC Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) Dr. Riffat Aayesha Anis said this while delivering welcome address at the inauguration ceremony of the training course on “Combating Child Trafficking: Unraveling the push and pull factors in the SAARC region” organized by SAARC Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) here at Margalla hotel.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan Bala Bahadur Kunwar inaugurated the one-week training course from July 18-23.
“Trafficking of children has become gravest crime in the SAARC region and now it is expanding beyond the regional boundaries,” said the Ambassador.
He added that combating child trafficking requires a holistic approach by various stakeholders with integrated action on prosecution, prevention and protection.
Dr. Ayesha said the training course would not only unravel the push and pull factors behind the child trafficking but also contribute to the efforts already in place nationally and across the region.
About 28 participants including three participants each from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and seven from Pakistan will attend the training program.
The participants, according to the Director, will prepare country reports incorporating broad aspects relating to the child trafficking as well as factors affecting the implementation of socio-economic programs in their respective countries.
