Sardar Atiq likely to be new AJK President

ISLAMABAD: The name of Sardar Atiq Ahmed, incumbent prime minister of Azad Kashmir, is floated as the new president of the region as the political contacts and activities have been stepped up for the government formation in Azad Kashmir after recent legislative elections.

The efforts are underway to form a coalition government of People’s Party and Muslim Conference in Azad Kashmir, sources said. Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan will be elevated to the office of the President under the proposal.

President Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat playing a pivotal role in formation of the new setup, sources further said. Barrister Sultan Mehmood had recently met Chaudhry Shujaat to discuss the issue.
