ISLAMABAD: Former Captain of Pakistan Cricket Shahid Khan Afridi Wednesday issued a statement in which he admitted that he had gone ‘a bit too far’ and as a signatory of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) code of conduct should have sought the resolution of the matter amicably instead of scandalizing the PCB.
In the statement, he informed that he was going to withdraw his application filed in the Sindh High Court against the PCB and would present before the PCB’s disciplinary committee on Thursday (today).
Following is the text of Afridi’s statement: “I have decided to review my decision to move the Sindh High Court (SHC) against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as I feel that I have gone a bit too far on this issue as a signatory to the PCB code of conduct I could have handled the matter accordingly.
I am admitting it as a true sportsman and cricketer and I believe that for the future progress, advancement and success of cricket in Pakistan, it is imminent to strengthen PCB as an institution instead of scandalizing it for individual interests.
I have always served Pakistan and played cricket for my country and it is people and the overwhelming love, honour and respect, I have received in return is my biggest asset. I have all the zeal and energy to play cricket for the nation form many years to come. I will be appearing before the disciplinary committee tomorrow, inshaAllah, and will accept their decision on this issue in true sportsman spirit.”
