ISLAMABAD: Tricky figures about raise in salaries and pensions in budget for 2010-2011 is another farce for the people in Pakistan.

The government was claiming that it would first merge all the ad-hoc relief allowances in basic pay and pensions of the employees and then 15 percent increase would be marked on the added pay.

But now they are saying that all the ad-hoc relief allowances granted upto 1-7-2009 will be merged in Basic Pay Scale-2008.

The ad-hoc allowances in 2010 were 50 percent while that in 2009 Just 35 percent. So when the government talked about merging the allowances, the employers and pensioners were happy over 50 percent increase in their basic pay.

“I am happy as 50 percent increase in my basic salary would benefit me in the long run,” said Rahat Said, a government employee working in BPS-11.

But now the question of 2009 has created massive confusions among them. Some people are even confuse so much that they say that increase in 2009 plus increase in 2010 mean 85 percent increase. “So we don’t know whether it is 85 percent, 50 percent or 35 percent increase,” said another government employee.

Not only the employees but also the officers in the finance ministry are not exactly know as what would be the final situation.

A senior official in the ministry on condition of anonymity told that 35 percent ad-hoc relief allowances of 2009 would probably be merged in the basic salary or pension. “But that is also not certain as situation would be clear after issuance of a notification in this connection,” he said.

  1. Yes it is correct that goovernent employees are not clear about their pay increase…Government should clear in detail about the exact increase of 15% on which basic pay current or initial and detial of merger of adhoc relief….

  2. i think new pay scales will benefit more to new entrants in govt, because they were eliegble to draw new basic pay of respective scale directly’
