All set for AJK elections on 26 June

ISLAMABAD: The authority for changing the dates of the AJK elections is with the Chief Election Commissioner Azad Jammu and Kashmir whereas all the political parties have also recommended to hold elections on prescribed time.

The elections in AJK will be held on 26 June. In this connection, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmad Watto has also said that the elections in AJK will be held in time as new electoral list has also been finalized and the chances of postponing the elections are very grim. He said that the federal government would provide its full support to AJK government in holding free and fair elections.

A meeting was convened to take review of preparedness for AJK elections with Federal Minster Manzoor Watto. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister AJK Sardar Atiq Khan, President PPP AJK Chaudhary Abdul Majeed, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim from Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Farooq Haider from PML (N) AJK, Abdul Majeed Malik from Liberation League and Tahir Khokhar from MQM along with other political leaders and high officials of AJK government as well as election commission.

The meeting reviewed the matters regarding voters’ list in detail, whereas Election Commission was given one week’s time to remove the apprehensions of political parties, which supported to hold elections on 26 June.

After the meeting Federal Minister Manzoor Watto told the media that consultation with political parties of AJK was held in cordial atmosphere and would produce positive results. He said that voters list has been finalized which would be displayed without wasting time.

Responding a question he said that the cancellation of election in AJK is out of question, however slight change in date is possible, for which Chief Election Commissioner is totally authorized
