PPP-PML-Q power sharing formula finalized

ISLAMABAD: Talks between PML-Q and PPP have been finalized according to which PML-Q would join the federal cabinet soon while the formula for seat-adjustment in the next general elections has also been finalized.

According to details PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat along with Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and Raja Bisharat held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in the Presidency to finalize the deal of power sharing. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Makhdoom Amin Faheem, and Raja Pervez Ashraf were also present in the meeting.

According to reliable sources PML-Q would get the share in the federal cabinet as per the formula for previous alliance partners of the PPP-led government.

According to sources the PML-Q stressed to apply the formula of previous alliance according to which the party would get a ministry after every eight members in the parliament.

The PML-Q has 51 MNA and 21 Senators with total 72 therefore it deserves nine federal ministries, the sources said. The sources further said the PML-Q would get the portfolios of the state ministers for the same ministries which it holds for the federal ministries.

The federal ministers of PML-Q would be directly answerable to Chaudhry Pervez Elahi instead of Prime Minister Gilani. The PML-Q would also get the share in next year’s Senate election from all the four provinces and Islamabad as well. Both the parties have also agreed on the seat-adjustment formula as well, the sources added.

The sources said that PML-Q would get four portfolios of federal ministers, six state ministers and three advisors with the status of federal minister. Raja Bisharat, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and Syed Qasim Shah would become Advisors while Qasim Shah would be given the task of Advisor on Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs.

According to sources Amir Muqam, Ghaus Bakhsh Maher and Jam Yousuf would get the portfolios of federal ministers.

The President organized a dinner party for the leaders of PML-Q.

Later, briefing media person the Spokesperson said that the meeting took place in the context of the on going dialogue between the two parties aimed at political re-alignment and strengthening reconciliation to address various issues confronting the country in an atmosphere of political stability, mutual tolerance and accommodation.

The two parties agreed to work together and cooperate for strengthening democracy, ensuring electoral reforms, reforms in FATA, creation of new provinces specially in Southern Punjab (Seraiki) and Hazara subject to consultation with the people and approval of stake holders including making appropriate amendments to the Constitution for this purpose.

Farhatullah Babar said that the two parties agreed to cooperate in a number of areas of concern to the people including economic uplift, controlling inflation, issues in power shortage, transparency and accountability and strengthening of the law and order situation in the country.

Following the agreement in principle the PML-Q agreed to form coalition government with the PPP in the centre headed by the PPP Prime Minister.

The two parties also agreed to cooperate in the next elections which will be held in accordance with the Constitution, he said.

The two parties also rejected any change in the government except through the mechanism of free, fair and transparent elections as laid down in the Constitution.
