All set to observe Labour Day

Daily wages labourers are busy in their work at Bohri Bazaar, in connection to International Labour Day.
ISLAMABAD: Labour organisations across the country including in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad will observe labour day on Sunday and workers unions and political parties will hold rallies and processions to commemorate Labour Day.
May Day commemorates the killing by police on May 1, 1886 of several demonstrating workers at Hay Market in Chicago, USA, who demanded that the 12-hour workday be reduced to eight hours.
Different trade and labour unions, human rights organisations, professional bodies will observe the day in a befitting manner by holding rallies, seminars, discussions and cultural programmes in the federal capital and elsewhere in the country. The state-run Pakistan television and private television channels will air special programmes on the day while national dailies are bringing out special supplements on the occasion
Over 700 daily wagers labourers are found working in different sectors of federal capital including I-10, G-7, G-9, and G-6 coming from different areas of the country remained busy to make both ends meet adopting different professions. Over 75 percent of these labourers are from other cities of the country that includes strength of 55 percent children aging 10 to 13 years.
Talking about May Day, they said they are not familiar with the importance of this day and even if this day is observed worldwide, they got nothing to do with it as their status remain the same.
