PPP, PML-Q finalise power sharing draft

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People Party and PML-Q leaders have finalised the draft of power sharing formula, which would be inked by both parties prior to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani foreign visit.

PML-Q sources said that President Asif Ali Zardari has agreed to the conditions tabled by PML-Q leaders Ch Shujaat and Pervez Elahi, which included making of Parliamentary Commission on the matters of provinces, Higher Education Commission, preparation of national syllabus and not devolving of federal drug control authority to the provinces and suggestions for taking the country out of economic crisis.

Sources told that in order to get the draft ready a consultation meeting was held at Ch Shujaat residence on Friday and the draft was later handed over to the President by Ch Shujaat on Friday evening.

Under the agreement Five PML-Q members would take oath as federal ministers while six to seven would be made state ministers. All the political cases against the PML-Q leaders and workers would be disposed.

Sources told that a formal agreement would be signed prior to oath taking ceremony and foreign visit of PM Gilani. The PML-Q would become part of the Govt coalition in the first week of week.

Sources told that Ch Shujaat and Pervez Elahi took the senior members of their party into confidence prior to meeting with President and told them that PML is joining the government under the political agenda.

They told that efforts of unification of PML met disappointed due to the attitude of Nawaz Sharif but now he should realise that we are not alone and even today the government itself is wooing us and the PML-Q along with PPP would defeat PML-N in 2012 senate elections and the next general elections.
