Pakistani women honoured by US Embassy for winning International Courage Award

ISLAMABAD: U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter has praised a Pakistani woman Ghulam Sughra founder and chief executive officer of the Marvi Rural Development Organization, for winning the State Department’s International Women of Courage Award.
He was speaking a reception held by US Embassy in the honour of award recipient Pakistani lady Ghulam Sughra , who is among the ten women worldwide who received the award from First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington, D.C. on March 8, 2011.
Munter recognized Ghulam Sughra, by saying that she has truly done heroic work to advance equality, opportunity, and dignity for the citizens of Pakistan.”
He was of the view that Ms. Sughra’s story of determination and perseverance is a symbol of inspiration for everyone.
On the occasion the honoured woman. Sughra emphasized the importance of education for women and speaking out against oppression. Dr. Marilyn Wyatt, wife of U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan also paid tributes to . Sughra for overcoming challenges in her own life, and for courageously working to contribute to the economic empowerment of women in Pakistan.
The International Women of Courage Award pays tribute to women activists worldwide. Since the inception of the prestigious award in 2007, the Department of State has honored 38 women from 27 countries.
