India releases 39 Pakistani Prisoners

WAGHA: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday handed over 39 Pakistani Prisoners to the Pakistani Rangers at the Wagah joint check Post.

Majority of released Prisoners were arrested by the Indian force on alleged charges on inadvertent crossing into Indian Territory.

Fisherman and a woman were also included amongst the Prisoners, released by India, a Private TV Channel reported.

The step by Indian side is a follow up to the recently concluded Home Secretary-level talks as well as talks between Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sing at sideline of world cup semifinal match between cricket team of both countries.

Pakistan and India arrest dozens of fishermen every year for violating their maritime boundary. Many of them languish in prison for years even after completing jail terms given to them.

Before crossing into their home country, the prisoners appealed to the Governments of India and Pakistan to release those who have been languishing in various jails of both countries.
