25 killed, over 100 wounded in Faisalabad explosion

FAISALABAD : More than 25 persons including a lady officer of PIA were killed, while more than one hundred persons injured eight of them seriously in a Powerful explosion at CNG Station situated near offices of intelligence agencies in Civil Lines area, here Tuesday.

Dozens of cars were damaged and buildings of the CNG station and PIA was razed to the ground when a bomb exploded in a car with a big bang.

Abid Sher Ali MNA, leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) disclosed that the 40kg explosive was planted in a vehicle parked at the CNG station, where more than 2 dozen vehicles including two Rickshaws were parked for getting CNG Gas during the Gas shedding of first Day. Police have arrested two persons on suspicion from the blast site.

The police cordoned off the area after the explosion as rescue teams arrived at the scene.
According to police, 25 people were killed and 65 others received injuries and were shifted to DHQ Hospital and Allied Hospital. The blast caused total damage to a CNG station, where the explosive led vehicle was parked and two hand grenades were also found at the site of blast.

Rescue work was underway and efforts to remove the rubble of the buildings were in progress. Rescue sources feared that the number of fatalities was expected to rise.
DCO Naseem Sadiq said that according to reports the explosion occurred when an explosive laden car rammed into the CNG Station. One suspect Usman of Kabirwala 24 year old, who suffered injuries, was arrested from the area. Another was rounded up from Chowk Chenab Club.

Talking to the media, RPO Aftab Cheema said that it was not a suicide blast but did not rule out terrorist activity. “An explosive-laden car was parked at the CNG station,”, he confirmed. Police have arrested a man on suspicion from the blast site. The blast set off gas cylinders at the station and the explosion destroyed or severely damaged nearby buildings and numerous vehicles, he added.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have condemned the terrorists attack and condoled with the bereaved families.

The Prime Minister expressed his sympathies with the families of the deceased as well as those injured in the incident, a statement from the PM House said.

PM Gilani has instructed the concerned hospitals to provide best medical facilities to the injured.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik, federal ministers, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other political leaders have vehemently condemned the incident of bomb blast and directed to probe into the matter.
