RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi District court on Saturday has framed charges against Federal Law Minister Babar Awan allegedly involved in kidnapping of a newspaper’s owner and robbery in 1998 .
Mr. Awan appeared before Civil Judge Mehr Sarfaraz Hussain along with his counsel Farooq Awan advocate and PLF (People Lawyers Forum) lawyers Sajid Tanoli, and Babar Ali. Babar Awan upon hearing the indictment denied the charges and termed the case as baseless .
During the course of the hearing a witness Mohammad Doraiz also testified about the case and told the court that no such incident had occurred.
However, the court formally indicted the federal minister and adjourned the hearing till March 12 and issued summon for prosecution witnesses to testify before the court
The case against Awan was registered by Sheikh Iftikhar, a newspaper’s owner at New Police Station some 12 years back. He accused Mr. Awan of robbing him of his cash after kidnapping.
On the other hand the The lawyers burst into laughter when announcement was made to charge sheet law minister Babar Awan.
Lawyers wondered how such allegation could be leveled against law minister and eminent lawyer Dr Babar Awan.
