SAMANDRI: Minority affairs minister Shahbaz Bhatti was laid to rest in his ancestral village Khushpur of Teshsil Samandri on Friday amidst scores of mourners.
The dead body of the slain minister was brought via helicopter from Islamabad to Tehsil Samandri of Faisalabad. The body was first brought to his native home where scores of people stood in queue to pay homage to their leader for the last time.
Wailing women in his ancestral village of Khushpur beat their chests and demanded: “Hang the killers.” Marchers at a rally bore black flags aloft and wore black armbands, chanting “Bhatti’s blood will bring revolution”.
Later the body was brought to Khushpur Church where the last rites were offered.
On the occasion large numbers of members of national and provincial assembly, governor Punjab and foreign ambassadors were present on the occasion.
The dead body amidst hundreds of mourners was brought to the graveyard where he was buried along with his father grave Jacob Bhatti.
Minority affairs minister Shahbaz Bhatti, 42, was killed earlier this week.
