Chief CDKN to visit Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) Chief Executive Sam Bickersteth would pay two day visit of Pakistan from tomorrow.
During his stay here he would meet government officials, representatives of civil society, climate change experts, and core group members of Ministry of Environment.
According to press release issued here on Monday, CDKN is an UK and Dutch-funded programme, created to help developing countries to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.
It supports decision-makers in designing and delivering climate compatible development policies that enable countries to bring prosperity and alleviate poverty, with reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting ways and means conducive for climate change. CDKN does this by funding research, technical advice and knowledge management, elaborated this by Chief Executive Officer Lead Pakistan Ali Tauqeer Sheikh here today while talking about the working and objectives of the visit of Sam Bickersteth.
He told that Sam Bickersteth is an agricultural economist by training, who has worked in research, programme, policy and management positions for DFID, Oxfam, the European Commission, and the Natural Resources Institute. He has held long-term posts in Sudan, Pakistan, Nepal, Mozambique and Bolivia.
Ali Tauqeer said that Pakistan is a victim of climate change being the most vulnerable country and a lot of activities are required for adaptation, mitigation, capacity building and technology developing. He said without proper research and technical assistance we cannot achieve the required results. He said CDKN is the most appropriate forum, which has the capacity to extend technical training and support our experts to update their knowledge and skills so that new projects to deal the issue of environmental degradation especially with relate to climate change.
The CEO Lead termed Sam’s visit important for Pakistan and asked the concerned organizations to share their experiences and strategies relating to research oriented activities for getting proper results.
