ISLAMABAD: Managing Director Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Ejaz Haroon has stepped down from the post after successful negotiations between government and protesting employees of PIA.
After travelers’ suffering due to complete suspension of PIA flights operation the government and Joint Action Committee of protesting employees reached an agreement leading to Managing Director’s resignation an end to the four-day strike Friday.
Sources say that Captain Nadeem Yusufzai will likely to be the new Managing Director of PIA, notification can be issues any time.
Earlier addressing a joint news conference, Rehman Malik – Interior Minister, Ahmad Mukhtar Defence Minister and Sohail Baloch President PALPA after detailed negotiations announced the resignation of MD PIA Ijaz Haroon, restoration of sacked employees and calling off the strike.
Ahmad Mukhtar while speaking on the occasion said that MD PIA Ijaz Haroon resigned from his post and he accepted the resignation. He further said that no MoU has been signed with the Turkish Airline and ministry has not been received any information in this regard. He stated that all the stake holders would have to work together for development of the PIA.
Ahmad Mukhtar said that all the sacked employees of PIA would be reinstated on their respective posts. No action against the country would be tolerated, he added.
Sohail Baloch while speaking at the occasion said that all the flight operation would be resumed and thanked to the President, Prime Minister, Rehman Malik and Ahmad Mukhtar. He offered sorry and pardoned to passengers for facing miseries due to flight closures.
Rehman Malik speaking said that they held the negotiations which should be done earlier, adding that all persons have problems in PIA which would be addressed at earliest.
It is vital to mention here that PIA went on a strike on Tuesday to protest against a proposed codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines. The protesting employees are also demanding the sacking of PIA’s managing director, Aijaz Haroon, an airline pilot considered a close friend of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Earlier, Rehman Malik took the notice of the baton charge over the PIA Employees at Karachi Airport and directed to end the action. Soon after taking the new oath of the ministry of interior, he reviewed the PIA strike matter.
