Margalla festival begins tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The sports and cultural department of CDA has announced the details of Margalla Festival 2011 commencing from January 15. The festival will conclude in the last week of March.

As per details, the Margalla festival has been divided into two phases, in the first phase, more than 20 sports competitions and 8 cultural ceremonies will be organized.

The formal inauguration of the Margalla festival will be on January 15 and two days cultural ceremony “Soni Darti ” will be organized in Arts and Craft village.

More than 34 students of twin cities school will participate in the inaugural ceremony, traditional dramas and folk music will also be part of the ceremony.

Member environment CDA Mian Waeeduddin will be the Chairman of the festival. He told that Margalla festival is being organized with the collaboration of local NGOs and sports federations.

He said competitions in marshal arts, badminton, Volley ball, football, table tennis, cycling, lawn tennis, squash, Boxing, hockey, cricket etc will be organized in the festival, he further told that squash, lawn tennis, boxing, cycling Kabbadi competition will be organized with the collaboration of national federations.

Mian Waheeduddin told that 8 cultural ceremonies will be organized in this year including Basant Galla, drama festival, comic poetry, Sufi musical show, fashion show, Ghazil night and famous singers of the country will perform in the festival.
