KHAR BAJUR/ISLAMABAD: A female suicide bomber on Saturday detonated her explosives among a group of people receiving supplies from a UN food distribution at Khar, killing at least 42 people and wounding more than 72.
According to government officials a 23 year old woman first attacked the Levies check post with hand grenade and than later detonated herself killing 42 people and wounding more than 72
Around 300 people were gathered to get food when the bomber struck.
According to an official the female suicide bomber dead body was in scattered pieces. The intensity of the blast was so high that it could be heard at long distances
This is the third suicide attack in Pakistan by a woman.
“Forty-two people have been confirmed dead while more than 70 people are injured. Seven to eight people are in critical condition,” Afif Khan, a medical officer at emergency department in Khar’s main hospital said.
Soon after the incident the levies forces cordoned off the area and started relief activities.
So far no one has claimed responsibility of the attack.
Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the bomb blast in Bajaur Agency.
They deplored the loss of precious lives in the blast and declared the act as a brutal activity of the militants who have no regard for the human and religion. He said that these militant are on the run the brave people of Pakistan are united against them. He said that fight against these elements would continue till their complete elimination.
The Prime Minister directed the authorities for provision of best health facilities to the injured.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik also condemned the blast and has sought a complete report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa govt.
