QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan Aslam Raisani survived a suicide attack on Tuesday when his motorcade was targeted by a bomber at Sariab Road crossing in Quetta.
The attacker was killed and 10 people including 5 policemen were injured in the incident.
As per details, CM Balochistan was on his way to Balochistan assembly from his house Sarwan House to attend the session. When his motorcade reached near Sariab Railway crossing a suicide bomber came in front of his motorcade and blew himself up. Due to the blast CM Balochistan Principal Staff Officer and 5 policemen along with 3 other people were injured. The windows of all the vehicles included in the motorcade were shattered. The CM and his vehicle remained unharmed due it being bullet proof and being protected by jammers.
After the blast traffic and rain service remained suspended.
According to police officials Chief Minister of Balochistan Aslam Raisani was the target of the suicide attack.
According to eye witnesses prior to the blast they saw a suspicious man roaming near the crossing however the authorities say they cannot confirm at this time whether it was a suicide attack or bomb blast.
Police have cordoned off the area after the attack and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals. One of the injured policeman is said to be in serious conditions.
The five policemen who have been injured have been identified as Khursheed Akbar ASI, ATC squad member Asadullah, Traffic police officer Abdul Qadoos, Sophai Mohammad Younis, Driver of the car Mohammad Iqbal who is said to be in serious condition
The passer by who have injured are Amir Khan, Habib ur Rehman, Jahangir, Roheel Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed who have been shifted to civil hospital Quetta
It merits mentioning that Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi escaped a similar attempt a few days ago when a timer device exploded a few minutes after his cavalcade had passed
