5 died in a car racing accident at Bahria HPR racing event

RAWALPINDI: Five spectators died when an out of control car ran over them during the High Performance Car Racing event held at Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.

According to details a speedy car driven by a man Majid Naeem, rammed into the crowd gathered on road side to witness this car racing event.

The driver though survived the crash but a Bank Manager Baber Ali, his eight years old son Asfandyar and two unidentified person died on the spot whereas one died in the hospital.

Police says that that the driver had ran away from the spot and has not yet been caught.

The event called “EVO Nitro Speed Quest 2010″ was organized at Bahria Town Phase-8.

The injured has been shifted to Safari Villa hospital for treatment, police added

Meanwhile organizing Committee of car race has expressed deep grief and sorrow over casualties in the mishap during the race, added complete security measures have been taken for the race.

The committee said that the strict measures were taken for the control of ten thousand people, who were present during the car race and enough measures were taken to control them.

The people were repeatedly requested to distant from the race trick and not try to come near. The administration has taken every kind of measures to succeed the event but the people were coming near to race trick despite the frequent warnings.

The accident took place as they ignored the administration instructions to keep distance from the race trick.

The organizing committee expressed their sympathy with the families of the victims of the accident and prayed for quick recovery of the injured persons.

  1. I don’t believe the driver is to be blamed at all. It’s the organizers if anyone has to be blamed. But in the end it’s the bystanders or the crowd which has to secure itself by standing at a distance or not going to such events. This is a dangerous sport to participate and casualties have taken place all over the world in such events. To make these events secure these events are held in racing stadiums or in cases in which these events are held on real roads the audience is educated or mature enough to stand far away from the tracks. Our population sadly is not mature enough today or will be in the coming future.
