Family members of Aasia Bibi tender mercy appeal to PM

Husband of Aasia Bibi, who is facing a case of blasphemy, gives an application to Federal Minister for Minorities, Shahbaz Bhatti, in which he appealed for relaxation on the sentence of Aasia from President and Prime Minister, at Ministry of Minorities at Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: Family members of Aasia Bibi accused in blasphemy case have tendered mercy appeal to prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

As per details Ashiq Masih, husband of Aasia Bibi along with other members of his family met Shahbaz Bhatti, minister for minorities and handed over mercy appeal to the federal minister which was addressed to prime minister.

Through the appeal they had requested the prime minister that baseless and unfounded cases had been instituted against Aasia Bibi and she had not committed such crime wherein she was being declared guilty.

It was further stated in the appeal that proper security arrangements for Aasia Bibi in and outside jail be ensured.

Minister for minorities Shahbaz Bhatti said that Aasia Bibi had been convicted and sentenced on false charges and no credible evidence was available which proved that she was rightly indicted.

He said that he would send mercy appeal of Aasia Bibi to prime minister today.
