F-22P Frigate handovers Pak Navy

KARACHI: Commander Pakistan Navy Fleet, Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz has said that the aim of the manufacturing of F-22P Frigate is to get indigenous in defence production through shift of technical expertise of technology.

Briefing the media persons after ceremony for the inclusion of third F-22P Frigate into Pakistan Navy, which is manufactured with the joint venture of Pakistan and China, Vice Admiral Tanvir Faiz said that the role of Pakistan Navy is very crucial keeping in view the strategic locality of the country. Out of all sea trade across the world, around 66 % percent passed through the circle of 100 miles of the Gwadar port, he added.

Vice Admiral stated that the role of Pakistan Navy is very vital to maintain the stability in the region, adding Pakistan Navy achieved the command of Task Force 150 for four times, in which Navy of eleven countries participated from across the world. Describing the establishment of this force, he said that this was started some ten years back to guard the sea boundary and stop the smuggling.

To a query, he said that the allegation regarding the use of sea area of Karachi for Mumbai attacks by Ajmal Kasab has not yet proved and there are no evidences in this regard.

Earlier, Captain Zubair Shafiq briefing about the F-22P Frigate said that according to compact three ships have been manufactured in Hadong Zwangoah in Shanghai while the fourth and final one is under process in Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. He informed that the F-22P Frigate was handed over to Pakistan Navy in September of this year, which was named PNS Saif.

Describing the specialties of F-22P Frigate, Captain Zubair Shafiq said that it is unique type of ship which is manufactured keeping in view the war needs of Pakistan Navy. It belongs to Saword Class and it is comprised of water to water, surface to surface missiles, Death Charges, Tour Pads, modern gun 76 mm, Klozane and Pan System Sensors, Electronic Warfare and Modern Command and Control System. It is also armed with anti-submarine guns while it can also detect sub-marines from long distance through Sonrasey system.

Z9EC anti sub marine helicopter is also armed with this three thousands tons weighted ship. PNS Zulfiqar was first ship which came into the country in September 2009 while the PNS Shamshir was second added in the Navy. The last and fourth one will be completed in 2013 in Karachi.
