ISLAMABAD: PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal has said President Asif Ali Zardari has breached fundamental norms of accountability and justice by appointing a favorite person as chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) adding president should have made this appointment after consultation with the prime minister and opposition leader.
Ahsan Iqbal said this while talking to a private TV channel here Saturday.
“It is verdict of Supreme Court (SC) too that chairman NAB should have been inducted in consultation with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP)”, he held. The motive behind consultation with leader of the opposition was this that NAB chairman be appointed with consensus so that no one could point any finger to the process of accountability and no one could dub it partisan , he observed.
He went on to say that government and prime minister had acknowledged that president had appointed his favorite as chairman NAB by exercising his discretionary powers. This way all the accused persons whose cases are under investigation in police stations and district courts should be given right to get man of their favour appoint as investigation officer to prove them innocent, he added.
If president was innocent then he should face the courts and prove his innocence, he demanded.
Rulers were hampering fair and transparent accountability process, he alleged.
