Plot to kill PM foiled 7 militants arrested

BAHAWALPUR: Head of the Tehreek E Taliban Punjab (Lashkar-e- Jhangvi Imran Group) Adbul Raheem (Talha) involved in suicide attacks has been arrested along with other six militants.

These militants were also plotting to kill prime minister, foreign minister and senior police, army and government officials and were also involved in ISI office attack in Multan in which 12 people were killed.

Police said the plot was discovered during the interrogation of seven militants who were arrested late on Wednesday.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Captain® Abid Qadri addressing a press conference along with District Police Officer(DPO) Baber Bakht in his office here on Thursday said the plot was discovered during the interrogation of seven militants who were arrested late on Wednesday.

He said that personals of Ahmedpur Sharqia Police Station ordered seven suspicious persons to stop during patrolling but they attacked on police party with hand grenade.

However police managed to arrest all seven militants in retaliatory measure.

RPO pointed out that all seven arrested militants including Abdul Raheem(Talha), Muhammad Afzal, Hafiz Saluman, Sajjad Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Billa and Mufti Munawar Hussain belongs to Tehreek E Taliban Punjab (Lashkari Jhangvi Imran Group). He said that Police teams were departure for arrest of the Muhammad Zubair(Mugeera) and Muhammad Ibrahim(Akram Lamba)

RPO revealed that all arrested seven militants had been involved in the different terrorism activities including attack on Intelligence Agency’s office in Multan, killing of five Shia people in Khanawal, murder of the ban organisation leader Meer Buksh Dhool in Hitchi, murder a person during the bank robbery in Jalilpur Peerwala and different Bank robberies

He further disclosed that they have made the plan of attacks on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Religious Minister Hamad Saeed Kazmi, City Police Officer Multan, Ghazi Ghot Bridge, Tonsa Barrage, Dera Nawab Cantt area and Vihari grid station.

Police recovered hand grenades, Kalashnikovs, pistols and other weapons from their possession
