PM takes notice of flag controversy at C’ wealth Games in Delhi

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani taking notice of flag controversy at Commonwealth games in New Delhi has asked Ministry of Sports to probe the matter in depth.

Pakistan Commonwealth Games squad was hit by a controversy over leadership of the squad during the march-past at the opening ceremony.

Gold Medalist weightlifter Shuja ud Din Malik was to lead the squad but at the last moment Chief de Mission Dr Mohammad Ali Shah took the flag.

During live broadcast of the ceremony, name of Shuja ud Din Malik was also displayed as the leader of the contingent.

Rashid Mehmood, an official of weightlifting team was of the view that Dr Shah has threatened to send the squad back home.

Thus taking immediate notice of the entire scenario, Prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday has asked Ministry of Sports to probe the matter in depth.

According Spokesman of PM House, PM Gilani has directed Federal Sports Minister Ejaz Jhakhrani to investigate into the matter while the perpetrators must not be allowed to roam freely thus action be taken against them.
