BRUSSELS: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen and discussed the recent operations of ISAF helicopters in Pakistani territory and lodged strong protest with him over NATO violations of Pakistan’s borders.
According to Pakistan embassy sources in Brussels, The FM presented the stance of the Pakistani govt and people before the NATO Secretary General and emphasized that if Pakistan’s national interest and geographical borders are not respected than this war would never reach its logical end.
He said that in order to win war on terror we need to win the hearts and minds of the people. He said that Pakistan has made enormous sacrifices in this war we have lost more than 2000 soldiers as well as have to deal with civilian casualties.
He said despite these facts, the international community still tells us to Do More and violates our borders, which is regrettable and unacceptable to us.
Sources told that Nato Secretary General admitted to border violation and regretted the loss of Pakistani soldiers. Apologizing for the border incursions he said that in future everything possible would be done to control such incidents. He said that we do not want to lose an important ally Pakistan and Pakistan’s cooperation and support is inevitable in winning the war on terror and for peace and stability in Afghanistan
Sources told that both sides agreed to wipe off the menace of militancy tooth and nail adding with the sheer support and cooperation of both sides, we cannot establish peace in the entire South Asia.
They further agreed to enhance information sharing mechanism adding that investigation committee has been established.
Regarding border incursions by NATO, strict action will be taken under the light of a methodical report when it unveils.
Foreign Minister soon after the end of the meeting informed the Pakistan Embassy that we have put our stance of the government as well as Nation in such a manner that our dignity is at the highesat level.
