Three bosses hold key meeting at Presidency

ISLAMABAD: The power troika comprising President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani held a key meeting at the President House in Islamabad on Monday.

Sources said the meeting, which went on for many hours, discussed ways and options to steer the country out of present political crisis facing the government after Supreme Court’s orders to implement its verdict on National Consolation Ordinance (NRO).

The power troika also vowed to honuor the judiciary and implement its verdicts in the letter and spirit, source said.

The meeting holds significance among political parties that expect important outcomes.

Earlier, the three officials had held a consultative meeting on March 16, 2009 over the judges’ reinstatement issue.

Farhatullah Babar, the Presidential said in a statement that “all the issues will be resolved in accordance with the Constitution.”

He said the meeting reviewed ongoing war against terrorism, and rehabilitation and rebuilding process after devastating floods that affected an area the size of England, affecting more than two million people.
