Reopening of Swiss cases: Law Ministry forwards summary to PM

ISLAMABAD: Federal law ministry has forwarded a summary regarding reopening of Swiss cases to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Confirming the forwarding of summary, senior officials of Law Ministry told that Law ministry has clarified its position in the summary regarding reopening of cases that no action can be taken against President and neither cases can be opened against him as he enjoys immunity under article 248. Sources told that summary further says that President is the supreme commander of the armed forces and part of the parliament and law ministry cannot write a letter to another country to take action against the president as that would be a violation of the constitution but also against the sovereignty of the country.

Sources said the summary has been forwarded by Federal law secretary Masood Chisti on the orders of Supreme Court and today (Friday) the government would present its stance before the SC and the copy of the summary would also be present before the SC. However whatever the decision the PM makes on the summary would be quiet important.

Sources said that PM Gilani himself on several occasions said that president is part of parliament and he enjoys immunity under the constitution.
